Hey everyone,
I've been on a bit of a reading spree lately and I'm looking for some new book recommendations. Here are some of my recent favorites:
- Name of the Wind
- Will of the Many
- Red Rising
- Mother of Learning
- Codex Alera
I really enjoyed these books for a few reasons:
- Watching the main character grow and develop over time.
- Minimal romance – I prefer it to be a side plot if it’s there at all.
- Stories with a male protagonist.
- Lighthearted or comedic moments sprinkled throughout.
- Settings in unique fantasy/sci-fi schools or academies.
- Main characters who use their brains more than their brawn.
- Either first person, or solo POV (not jumping from character to character)
Bonus points if:
- The character isn’t what people think he is (Red Rising vibes).
- He’s an outsider or doesn’t fit neatly into society.
- He’s willing to be ruthless or isn’t a complete pushover.
- Edit: also any sort of mystery/conspiracy subplot would be cool
Any suggestions that fit these criteria? Thanks in advance!

Terra Invictus. It’s a modern day science fiction fantasy. It begins pre-dystopian as the world and society begins to collapse. It is heavy on conspiracy, war, pandemic, Roman Republic Lore, mythology, fallen angels, extraterrestrials and survival. It follows 2 POVs. A Jack who is an American from Texas and Valentia who is a Romacarth of Roman ancestry who lives in Nova Roma. Book came out earlier this year on printed copy and Ebook but the audiobook just came out.

You know Patrick Rothfuss put out a second book in the series? It’s solid if you wanted to continue with Kvothe’s story. Heartbreak he never finished the trio. :/ The Wise Man’s Fear.
Red Rising is my all time favorite series. Pierce Brown is amazing
